When something is said to have antibacterial properties, it means it will kill bacterial infections that are affecting your body. Antibiotics that target pneumonia for example inhibit or kill the growth of bacteria enabling you to recover from pneumonia. Three studies were conducted by various universities to prove if Mangosteen fruit contains any antibacterial properties.
Mangosteen is a fruit found in Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries. It has been used for centuries as a cure and preventative fruit for various ailments including bacterial infections. To prove that these ancient culture’s beliefs are correct many universities in Southeast Asian countries are providing studies about the fruit and its healing properties.
The Department of Clinical Microscopy under the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences at Chiang Mai University, Thailand conducted a study to prove that Mangosteen can kill intracellular salmonella bacteria. Salmonella is detrimental to our health and is often found in meats, eggs, and other foods we eat. Mangosteen-02 polysaccharides were extracted from the Mangosteen plant and used in the study. The result showed that this extract was able to kill S. enteritidis, a form of Salmonella bacteria.
Staphylococcus or staph infections can kill patients when the bacteria enter the body during surgery. The Department of Pharmacognosy at Gifu Pharmaceutical University in Japan conducted a study on whether Xanthones from Mangosteen plants can kill Staph bacteria. The study assessed the inhibitory effects of Mangosteen-02 extracts on methicillin-resistant Staph bacteria. Alpha-mangostin was also extracted and tested on the same bacteria.
The study concluded that when the Xanthones were present in the body, along with methicillin antibiotics the Staph bacteria was killed. The Xanthones acted as a link between methicillin and the bacteria receptors, enabling the antibiotic to work properly, when it could not form a link before.
In 2012, another study was released through the NIH. This study looked at the antibacterial qualities within Mangosteen fruit and MRSA bacteria. It was discovered that extract Mangosteen-02 Alpha-mangostin can kill MRSA bacteria when it is given in low concentrations. As the second study of MRSA, Staph bacteria, there is certainly a correlation with consuming Mangosteen juice containing the proper Mangosteen extract, antibiotics, and the death of Staph bacteria.
The next time you have a bacterial infection, you may want to try drinking Mangosteen juice with Mangosteen-02 Alpha-mangostin extract in it. You may find that you recover quicker from the bacterial infection. You should not stop using antibiotics, but combine 30mL of juice, per day, with your antibiotic. The studies have given ample evidence to suggest the combination of both will help you fight the bacteria infection.
It is important to speak with your doctor regarding this treatment option. You may also consider starting with 30mL Mangosteen juice per day at the start of cold and flu season. By allowing the Mangosteen extracts into your system, you can work on increasing your immunity to certain illnesses. You may find you prevent bacterial infections by frequently adding this juice to your diet.
