The search is always on for the next big superfood and among the candidates for this top honor for this year is Mangosteen. This fruit is known for protecting the health and providing a tasty treat for consumers, but it is rather difficult to find, and some markets may have not even heard of this exotic edible. Mangosteen is much more than just a fad food. It provides natural vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants to energize the body and keep you going throughout the day. If you are wanting to procure this delicacy, you will have to know where to shop. Mangosteen is not simply available at any store and here are just a few reasons why.
Major retailers seem to mainly stock items that can be made available throughout the year. That way, customers can get the food they want at any time. Mangosteen is a strict seasonal fruit and is only available during the second quarter of the year in southeast Asia, the main hub for the fruit.
Customers sometimes complain that the price of Mangosteen is a bit steep. There is a reason for that. Import tax and the fact that the fruit is only available for a small part of the year add to the expense, but when you consider the many health benefits of Mangosteen, it is a small price to pay for so many vital nutrients provided in one piece of fruit. Those that have tried Mangosteen can vouch for its effectiveness and claim that it is more than worth additional expense.
Strict Propagation and Cultivation Environment
Mangosteen grows best in rich moist climates and have very strict requirements to grow properly. Firstly, germination takes up to 21 days, but plants must remain indoors for a minimum of 2 years before a pod is able to grow. The pod, however, is not fully mature until 5 to 6 years. Typical ideal harvest is between 8 and 10 years for the best fruit quality. The plant can then be transplanted, only during the rainy season, to an outdoor space provided the temperature is able to maintain above 20 C. Max temperature for Mangosteen is 40 C. As you can plainly see, it takes a lot of time and consideration for the needs of the plant to ensure it is able to grow to maturity.
Major production of Mangosteen comes from Thailand, but small pockets of growers can be found in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean Islands, Florida, California, Hawaii, and South America. Growers are limited in how much they can produce simply because the nature of the plant. Supply and demand variables always influence where a product can be sold.

The Mangoxan Mangosteen juice product is a natural health beverage based on a fruit that has science to back up its health benefit claims and no side effects, unlike many other prescribed and over-the-counter pharmaceutical drugs.
